HKVCC co-organised Seminar on Opportunities of Investment and Business in Vietnam

A 23-member delegation led by Mr Dang Minh Khoi, Ambassador of Vietnam to China visited Hong Kong in early April. HKVCC co-organised a seminar with The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) on 6 April 2016 for our members to get the latest information from the delegation on opportunities of investment and business in Vietnam.

Dr Jonathan Choi, Chairman of HKVCC said, “Today’s seminar will set a platform for business development and cooperation between Hong Kong and Vietnamese companies. I am glad that the topics today cover ASEAN, TPP and the One Belt One Road Initiatives. The benefits of wider regional collaboration and cooperation present great opportunities for business investment too.”

Dr Choi added, “With GDP going upwards and inflation under control, Vietnam is once again garnering renewed interest from global investors. With the favourable regional developments, investor sentiment towards Vietnam will continue to rise in the coming years.”

Vu Quang Minh, Assistant to the Foreign Minister made a presentation on investment and business opportunities in Vietnam brought by the ASEAN Economic Community and TPP.

He said, “Vietnam is evaluated as an ideal investment destination thanks to its transparent policy and quick procedures, adding that the foreign investment capital poured into the country has been increasing in recent years. As a member of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement, Vietnam is improving its investment environment and relevant policies as well as building a legal framework in line with international criteria to draw overseas investment projects.”

Nguyen Van Thanh, Vice Chairman of Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee introduced to Hong Kong investors about the business opportunities in the province and local priority fields such as tourism, services, processing industry, support industry and financial services.

Quang Ninh is building the Van Don Special Economic Zone, the first of its kind in Vietnam, with favourable administrative procedures to attract foreign investors. The official cited that Hong Kong is running 13 investment projects in Quang Ninh with a total registered capital of up to 989 million USD, ranking second out of the 18 countries and territories investing in the province.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tien, Deputy Director General of Ministry of Planning and Investment of Vietnam also briefed the economic and investment collaborative relations between Vietnam and China and Hong Kong in recent years. Vietnam hopes major companies from China, including Hong Kong and Macau, will come to Vietnam to seek partners and explore investment climate, in a bid to drive the two nations’ economic ties forward.

Mr Dang Minh Khoi, Vietnamese Ambassador to China gave closing remarks about the economy in Vietnam as well as its policies to attract investment. He confirmed that Hong Kong plays a crucial role as a gateway for Vietnamese economy to reach out to the region and beyond.

Mr Nguyen Van Doc, Secretary of Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee, Mrs Nguyen Thanh Mai, Consul General of Vietnam in Shanghai, Mr Nguyen Tien Hong, Consul General of Vietnam in Guangzhou, Mr Nguyen Si Hong, Consul General of Vietnam in Kunming, Mr Pham Thanh Binh, Consul General of Vietnam in Nanning, also attended the seminar.

After the seminar, attendees met with the Vietnam delegation members for follow-up discussions.
